The Digital Media Production major is a hands-on, professionally focused degree that equips students with technical expertise and a theoretical foundation in the making of video, audio, television, cinema, and radio. The major prepares students for a multitude of career pathways that include broadcast journalism, filmmaking, podcast production, and video content creation.
Our program instills a deep understanding of media production from a technical, creative, ethical, and analytical perspective. It offers an experiential education while examining the theoretical underpinnings that make for meaningful and substantive media products. From day one, students will be actively producing media; from short films to podcasts to news broadcasts.
Digital media production is a growth industry with a wide range of professional opportunities. From entertainment to education to advertising to news, digital media touches every aspect of modern life. Recognizing this, the Digital Media Production major is dedicated to creating a diverse, inclusive community of scholars and practitioners who will wield the power of media production to make a positive impact on society and further the common good.
Digital Media Production is housed within the Integrated Media Department, which is also the home of our Journalism and Public Relations majors. Students are encouraged to take courses across all three majors to best suit their academic and professional goals, and through this comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum, students gain the skills critical for success in in today’s increasingly complex media landscape.
The department’s faculty has collectively spent decades working professionally in media, including print and broadcast journalism, the film industry, public relations, strategic communication, and advertising. They bring lived experience to the classroom that vigorously prepares students to be successful professionals.
Students gained hands-on experience at Super Bowl Week, working within live media environments, connecting with industry professionals, and seeing how classroom skills translate to fast-paced production settings.
